We went to the U of U hospital on Thursday, August 28th for a Non-Stress Test (NST) and an Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI) where they measure the pockets of fluid around the baby, after my appointment with Becky, my Midwife, Aislin's heart rate was staying around 180 at Becky's office so she sent us to the hospital. While there, the baby's heart rate started to come down in the normal range, but she didn't have a lot of fluid around her. Her AFI was 5.3 when the normal range is 8-22. The doctor at the hospital suggested induction, but we decided to go home and I would drink tons of water all night. Which I did. We had an appointment the following morning for a follow up NST and AFI at the U of U hospital. After the AFI we were told there were no pockets of fluid around Aislin. At that point I was admitted and things started to go really fast. We had an awesome doctor. She was very empathetic to our situation and felt bad about the way things were going. She actually got tears in her eyes when she was telling us we really needed to get the bbay out. At this point she broke my water and nothing came out. She put an internal fetal monitor in and the baby's heart rate would stay down between contractions. Apparently I had finally started labor on my own, but couldn't feel the contractions. Jordan and I were both in shock at how things were going so opposite of what we wanted and had planned. We decided to go ahead with the C-section.
When they pulled Aislin out she was covered with meconium and they sent her straight to the NICU. I didn't get to see her for 4 hours. It was a very traumatic experience for all of us. The good news is that she has had absolutely no side effects from the meconium. She is doing wonderfully and growing like a weed. I am still recovering from the C-section, but doing better every day.

Aislin Rae was born at 10:10am on August 29th, weighing in at 7lbs, 5oz. She was 20 inches long!
